Umberger, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Atkinson, Foligno, Brassard, Johansen and maybe Prospal fit that bill. Not 2 <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> 0 goals this season, of course. It's 48 games. But they have quite a few "second-tier" scorers on this club. Umberger and Brassard got off to horrible starts last season, and Dubinsky had a down year with the Rangers. But this team isn't devoid of offensive talent. It's absent a star, yes. But if everybody performs up to standard, and if there are some pleasant surprises in the group (Atkinson, Johansen) they could turn out all right.

Don Kelly is back.Released in October, the utility man was among 17 players the Detroit Tigers invited to spring training today. Kelly said in a phone interview this morning that he had a number of other offers, mostly from National League teams. But he chose to return to the Tigers for a chance to win the World Series. “When it comes down to it, you’re with a club for so many years, and you have an opportunity to go back there and win a World Series with those guys,” Kelly said. “To have that opportunity to be a part of that, it was a good opportunity for us.”Of the other offers, Kelly said: “There was really one other one that we were seriously considering. It was a contending club, as well, in the National League. Honestly, it was a tough decision.”Jim Leyland’s decision to continue managing the Tigers was a factor in Kelly’s decision to return. “He’s been a huge supporter,” Kelly said. “Definitely having Skip there was a big plus in coming back. I’m looking forward to getting down to spring training and having the opportunity to compete again.”On the other hand, Kelly would have enjoyed a clean slate in the NL.“When you look at the type of player I am, except for one other club, it was all National League clubs we were talking to,” Kelly said. “When you look at it, I am a good fit for a National League ballclub.”Kelly, 32, hit .186 in 75 games with the Tigers last season. He said he didn’t take much time off after the World Series to begin preparing for the upcoming season.The other players invited to Tigers camp were: Right-handed pitchers: Trevor Bell, Shawn Hill, Michael Morrison Left-handed pitchers: Jose Alvarez, Kenny Faulk, Ryan Robowski Catchers: Curt Casali, Brad Davis, James McCann Infielders: Argenis Diaz, Eugenio Suarez Infielders/outfielders: Kelly, Nick Castellanos, Kevin Russo, Matt Tuiasosopo Outfielders: Tyler Collins, Daniel Fields Additionally, the team announced that staff members Kevin Bradshaw, Jeff Cox, Manny Crespo, Chris Cron, Bill Dancy, Joe DePastino, Leon (Bull) Durham, Bruce Fields, Jaime Garcia, Phil Nevin, Al Nipper, Dave Owen, Gerald Perry, Brian Peterson, Gene Roof and A.J. Sager, plus Tigers legends Willie Horton and Al Kaline will be in uniform this spring.Cox has joined the Tigers organization as a baserunning consultant for the 2013 season. He will consult on baserunning during spring training and various Tigers home stands during the season. The first pitchers-and-catchers workout in Lakeland will be Feb. 12, while the first full-squad workout will be Feb. 15.
